Life's changes

Over the past few months, my focus has been on trying to find out how I fit in California. And I'm only just now beginning to feel settled. That being said, I'm getting ready to move again, and I still haven't found any social support like what I had built over the years and years that I grew up in North Carolina. Sometimes people say that you don't realize what you had until it's gone, and I think for me, I knew what I had, but I realize how unique and special it was to have such a strong group of friends so close to me, and while that still exists, the physical distance is much more of strain than I thought. I guess it's the permanence of it all. This time I've really moved, for good. (which is not to say that couldn't someday change...) I love California, don't get me wrong, but I guess I wax nostalgia because now that I'm here, I suddenly realize how incredibly difficult it is to make new friends.

In other news, like I said, I'm moving, again! As most of you know, I'm living in Jonathan's mom's house, and she's going to be putting it on the market in January 2006. It has been an incredible blessing to live here. It's a beautiful, peaceful space, and I cannot begin to express my gratitude at the opportunity it has given me to really relax and try to begin to get on my feet and find my own way in life. (not that I am any closer to figuring out what to do with my life...but anyway...)

So, this weekend Jonathan and I are signing the papers for a 2bd/1ba apartment in Burlingame, CA, which is about halfway between where I live now and San Francisco. So we will be closer to the city and just two towns south of the San Francisco International Airport. The apartment is in a beautiful completely remodeled historic building. There are two buildings in the complex, each with four identical 2bd apartments. Jonathan and I fell in love, and we decided to go for it! All refinished cherry hardwood floors, gas stove/oven, washer/dryer, dining nook w/built in china cabinet, etc... We're very excited, and I will just be happy to finally be able to unpack my boxes. I feel like I've just been constantly moving for the past year or so. The other fabulous part about this place is that it's just across the street from the main downtown area with shops and restaurants - plus, just 3-4 blocks away is the Burlingame Caltrain station.

Anywho...I don't want to drag on...

but...

We have a date for the wedding!!!

Ya! A Frances post! You know what, I'm sitting here, listening to Carol King's Tapestry and trying to write some papers... I ordered it extra from the library cause I didn't have it (cause Frances had it) and now I'm wishing you were here to sing along with me and so we could discuss/argue the meanings of the lyrics... sigh. I know what you mean babe. I love it here... but you're so far away! (sung)
Congrats on the apartment! It sounds awesome. I want to seeeeee!
Love you babe!

Your new place sounds wonderful!! It definitely sounds like something I'd pick...I was in San Francisco a couple of summers ago and it was a beautiful place, so I know you're going to love that entire area. Yeah, it's not NC or Atlanta, but you can't copy perfection ALL the time :P
Need some wedding planning advice? :P
